Sun in spring: these destinations feel like summer

Sun in spring: these destinations feel like summer

Here in Germany, we have to wait until June for summer. That's when the season of sunshine, outdoor swimming pools and ice lollies begins.

If you don't want to wait quite so long for that warm feeling on your skin and the taste of creamy strawberry ice cream, you can travel to places that exude that absolute summer feeling as early as March

Our 5 tips on where you can enjoy a summer vacation from March

Here we reveal the five destinations where you can swim in the sea and soak up the sun in spring:

#1 Canaries

Seven hours of sunshine a day, up to 23 degrees on Lanzarote and Fuerteventura from March onwards and a landscape that is just waking up from its winter sleep - when you arrive on the Canary Islands after just four hours of travel time, you can expect an unmistakable, summery island feeling. The Canary Islands include seven main islands - Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro. They are all located off the northwest coast of Africa.
If you want to jump into the sea and enjoy your days on the beach, we recommend Tenerife, the best developed Canary Island, which is more varied than any other - both in terms of landscape and culture.

You can either hike up Pico del Teide - the highest mountain in Spain - or lie under palm trees just a few hours' drive away and feel like you're in the Caribbean. In the resorts of Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas and Costa Adeje, you can enjoy the relaxing beach life from as early as March. Do you love old towns? Then plan a day trip to the former capital San Cristóbal de La Laguna. Here you can stroll through streets dating back to the 16th century, which are now a UNSECO World Heritage Site, admire the cathedral and enjoy the colorful magnificent buildings.

Do you want your suitcase to match the good mood flair? Our MIIGO  accompanies you in radiant shades and three different sizes.

#2 Málaga

We're going back to the mainland - but staying on Spanish soil. Because our next tip takes us to Málaga, the second largest city in the southern Spanish region of Andalusia. It not only impresses with its subtropical Mediterranean climate, but also with an incredible variety of places worth seeing. In March, the thermometer is already 20 degrees - and rising. When the sun is shining, you can either stroll along the modern harbor promenade, indulge in a little romance in the botanical garden or immerse yourself in the 19th century in the old town. Beautiful beaches and bays are also just a few minutes' drive from the city.

A sight that will make everyone happy: the Gibralfaro Castle from the 14th century. From its walls, you can look out over the entire city and the coast of the Costa del Sol.

For you, a cone of ice cream is part of the absolute summer feeling? Then Málaga is the place for you. The city is one of the Top Ten European "Ice Cream Cities". The nougat ice cream from Casa Mira, which is reminiscent of a typical local sweet, is particularly popular

#3 Cyprus

March to May is the best time to travel to Cyprus - for those who like it warm but not too hot. Temperatures climb from 20 to 25 degrees and the sun shines beautifully. Located in the eastern Mediterranean, you will experience a Mediterranean flair on every corner of the island with a mix of European and oriental influences that will immediately get you into vacation mode.

Cyprus is the right choice, especially if you love the sea. We have rarely seen such turquoise waters as here, in this magical place that delights with rocks, bays and white beaches.

But that's not all. Even though Cyprus is only 3.6 times the size of the Saarland, there are many sights here that will amaze you. For example, the port city of Paphos surrounded by banana, orange and lemon plantations with a medieval fortress right on the harbor and the royal tombs of Nea Paphos, the Roman ruins in Kourion, which are among the most impressive archaeological finds, and the rock of the goddess Aphrodite, which you should swim around once if you want to be beautiful forever.

#4 Sri Lanka

There is no bad time to travel to Sri Lanka. You just need to know in which months and which regions are recommended: From March to November, the east coast is recommended. For the south coast, it's November to April.

Because the island in the Indian Ocean has so much to offer, it's also worth planning an entire round trip. Whether it's breathtaking beaches, national parks with elephants, idyllic mountain villages, tea plantations in the highlands or impressive temples - on Sri Lanka, you'll immerse yourself in a completely different world that will create unique memories.

Where should you definitely make a stop? In our opinion, these are the world-famous Temple of the Tooth in Kandy, the highlands around Ella, the Thiru Koneswaram Temple, the lion rock Sigiriya and Yala National Park.

You know those pictures of smiling people sticking their heads out of a blue train and riding through the middle of green landscapes? On Getyourguide you can book just such a tour and visit several places at the same time.

#5 Cape Town

Even on our first visit, Cape Town cast a spell over us. There is hardly any other place with such fascinating sunsets. We had goosebumps as we sat on the rocks in the sea and watched the sun slowly disappear into the water at the "end of the world" and bathe the rocks behind us, in which the South African city is nestled, in golden light.
Cape Town is the perfect mix of nature and culture. Of city and beach. Of being active and simply relaxing. It's the ideal place to escape the German winter and enjoy summer temperatures.

What we particularly love: the Oranjezicht City Farm Market, where you can sample a wide variety of delicacies under a large canopy, while everyone sits together and the sound of the sea roars in your ears.

You don't just want to see Cape Town, you want to take a round trip through South Africa. Here we have collected our 5 most beautiful places and routes for you. Designed for a longer trip: our suitcase Air Base in L.
